Research initiatives

Amodern is a peer-reviewed, open-access scholarly journal devoted to the study of media, culture, and poetics. Dr. Darren Wershler is a founding editor. 

The Ampersand Lab houses a variety of research projects investigating the connections between media studies & literary studies. Dr Darren Wershler oversees this lab. 

The Centre for Expanded Poetics is a creative research laboratory for the interdisciplinary study of structure, form, and fabrication. Dr. Nathan Brown is the Director.

Environmental Humanities is an open access journal, published by Duke UP and funded and managed by a collaborative partnership between Concordia University and four other international partners (UCLA,  U of Sydney; KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Sweden; University of New South Wales). Dr. Jill Didur serves as a member of the Management Committee.

When and how are jokes about difficult or traumatic experiences productive and healing? Dr. Danielle Bobker is a co-organizer of this CISSC working group.

This SSHRC funded project investigates new modes of reading tied to mobile media and locative narratives that defamiliarize place, landscape, and the environment. Dr. Jill Didur is the Principal Investigator.

LEMON HOUND is an online literary journal reviewing poetry and prose founded by Sina Queyras.

We are LudicVoice: a team of specialists working together to design sound and voice-based games, as well as games that explore historical adaptation. Dr. Jason Camlot oversees these projects. 

Drs Camlot, Didur, Leroux, Wershler, and Yeager are members of Milieux, an institute for research-creation at the intersection of the fine arts, digital culture and information technology.

Post45 is a collective of scholars working on American literature and culture since 1945. Dr. Mary Esteve is a founding editor and member of the Post45 Steering Committee.

The SPAM Centre draws together a variety of scholarly concerns that intersect with the broad field of animal studies. Dr Jesse Arseneault is a co-founder of this CISSC research group.

Spoken Web investigates the features that will be the most conducive to scholarly engagement with recorded poetry recitation and performance. Dr. Jason Camlot is the Principal Investigator.

Drs Camlot, Didur and Wershler are members of Technoculture, Art and Games (TAG), an interdisciplinary centre for research/creation in game studies and design, digital culture and interactive art.
