Position description

The Centre for Continuing Education at Concordia University provides part-time employment to a range of subject-matter experts to teach in short-target courses and programs. Teaching tasks include the preparation of course and course plan, delivery of course, evaluating student performance and grading student work and grade submission. Instructors attend departmental meetings and attend professional development training activities related to the program.

Course description and learning outcomes

Building a successful cybersecurity posture for firms requires more than teaching personnel cybersecurity fundamentals. Businesses must also develop and implement an overall cybersecurity strategy that encompasses all aspects of the organization’s operations. This course will provide students with the knowledge and skills they need to develop an effective cybersecurity posture for their organization.

By the end of this course, the students will be able to:

  • Describe the basics of cybersecurity;
  • Describe different types of cyber threats that businesses face;
  • Communicate methods to protect businesses from cyber-attacks;
  • Advocate for the importance of cybersecurity for businesses;
  • Communicate using cybersecurity terminology, when speaking to technical professionals;
  • Communicate cybersecurity in business terms to upper management;
  • List areas of an organization to consider when developing a cybersecurity strategy.

Qualifications and assets

  • Education: BA/MA in Cybersecurity or equivalent, with a major in Cybersecurity, Information Technology, Computer Science or equivalent
  • Industry experience: 5+ years relevant work experience or equivalent
  • Teaching experience: 3 years of teaching experience or equivalent
  • Experience: Experience in organizational change management, behaviour change strategies, and small- to medium-sized business development as it relates to cybersecurity, security policies and procedures, and cyber threats. Knowledgeable about the common mistakes that businesses and employees make when it comes to cybersecurity, and about limitations of cybersecurity awareness training.
  • Having an industry certification like CISSP, CompTIA Security+ is a plus
  • French proficiency required: Conversation minimum level 4; Writing level 5. Candidates will be tested.
