The President's Task Force on Anti-Black Racism was formed to oversee and coordinate the work required to generate recommendations that will address systemic anti-Black racism across the university — in areas including employment, policies, and teaching and learning.

The Task Force finalized the subcommittees’ membership, defined their terms of reference and presented a work plan to the provost, Anne Whitelaw.

Concordia’s provost received a progress report on the work of the subcommittees that identifies immediate action items.

Concordia’s provost received the Task Force’s preliminary recommendations initially outlined in the progress report submitted in June.

Concordia’s president received comprehensive recommendations and an action plan to combat anti-Black racism at Concordia.

Concordia released its final report of the President’s Task Force on Anti-Black Racism.The university also issued a historic apology for its mishandling of race-based student complaints, the outcomes of the 1969 Sir George Williams University student protest, and its dire consequences on Black and Caribbean students.

Renaming “Campus Security” to “Campus Safety and Prevention Services” to foster a sense of community rather than surveillance and policing.
March 2023
Renaming the “D.B. Clarke Theatre” to the" Concordia Theatre.” The theatre was initially named after Douglass Burns Clarke, acting principal and vice-chancellor of Sir George Willams University from 1968 to '69.

Establishing and resourcing a Task Force implementation team to manage and track the adoption of recommendations.

The Task Force implementation team officially begins to work across Concordia to deliver recommendations outlined in its final report released in October 2022.
October 2023
The first meeting of the Advisory Committee on the implementation of recommendations from the President’s Task Force on Anti-Black Racism is held. It includes a cross-section of Black faculty, students and staff.
January 2024
The Task Force implementation team releases a one-year progress report and website to update the community on their work.
