Biography
Prior to joining Concordia, Jean-Pierre Larocque has lived and worked in Montreal as a self-supporting artist for 10 years. From 1990 to 2000 he taught full-time at a number of institutions across North America including Emily Carr University of Art Design in Vancouver, the New York State College of Ceramics at Alfred University, the University of Athens in Georgia, the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, and California State University, Long Beach near Los Angeles. In 2004, Larocque was commissioned to create a large solo exhibition for the reopening of the Gardiner Museum of Ceramics in Toronto. Entitled Jean-Pierre Larocque: Clay Sculpture and Drawings, the exhibition, accompanied by a catalogue, opened in 2006. A film of the project was presented at the International Festival of Films on Art later that year. His work was featured in Raw/Medium/Rare/Well Done, the ceramics exhibition in the FOFA Gallery in March 2009.
