Biography

Michael Wilson began playing trombone and euphonium in the Salvation Army Band in Mascouche, Quebec at the age of 11. After high school, he enrolled at the Conservatoire de Musique de Montréal,  where he studied with Joseph Zuskin, graduating in 1975.  

He is a founding member of the Orchestre Metropolitain de Montreal, and is also a long-time member of Montreal's Vic Vogel Big Band. As well, he has  performed regularly with such organizations as the Orchestre Symphonique de Montréal, the McGill Chamber Orchestra, I Musici de Montreal, the Quintette de Cuivres de Montreal, as well as the National Arts Centre Orchestra in Ottawa.

In addition, Michael Wilson has performed with solo artists such as Renee Fleming, Luciano Paravotti, Placido Domingo and Bryn Terfel.

A versatile musician at ease in a variety of styles, he has also performed with such artists as Barbra Streisand, Celine Dion, Tom Jones, La Bottine Souriante, the rock group Offenbach, Diana Krall and Dizzy Gillespie.

Michael Wilson teaches at Vanier Cegep and Concordia University.
