Biography
Nathalie Dumont is Assistant Professor in the Department of Design and Computations Arts at Concordia University.
Nathalie's research is centered on typography. She currently investigates the process of type design and the methodology devised for the inquiry borrows from qualitative research methods. An important component of the project is the design of a new text typeface for print that aims to address issues of innovation and novelty in a field traditionally governed by conventions.
Following her BFA in graphic design from Université Laval, Nathalie Dumont completed the only Master's in the field of typeface design offered at the time, in Reading, England. She is now pursuing a PhD in Studies and Practices of Arts at Université du Québec à Montréal and has attended two Master's classes with Luc(as) de Groot and Stefan Sagmeister at École d'été de Percé of Université Laval. Prior to joining Concordia University, Nathalie taught typography for five years at Université Laval and has given a workshop at École Intuit Lab in Paris. Her freelance work focuses on print-based design.
