Position description:

The Department of Creative Arts Therapies in the Faculty of Fine Arts invites applications to fill an extended term appointment (ETA) in Art Therapy: Arts in Systemic Health at the rank of Lecturer or Senior Lecturer to begin August 1, 2025. 

Faculty members holding ETA positions are full-time professors whose primary duties are teaching and service, with no research obligations. This appointment offers the possibility of promotion and permanent status. The successful candidate is responsible for teaching six or seven three-credit courses per year and administrative and service duties within the department. The initial mandate is for three years and is subject to renewal.   

We are seeking candidates who demonstrate an authentic commitment to social justice and to the development and integration of innovative art therapy and health promotion initiatives within all aspects of their teaching, service, clinical, and advocacy endeavours. The successful candidate will be expected to supervise graduate students in clinical work; supervise MA student research projects; assist in program development; serve on graduate committees; and perform administrative duties. Other responsibilities include practicum coordination, which involves overseeing practicum sites and graduate student placements, and supporting practicum supervisors. Over time, the selected candidate will actively embrace program stewardship and engage in committee work at the Department, Faculty and University levels.

Qualifications and assets 

Candidates must have at minimum, a completed MA in Art Therapy. A completed PhD (or a PhD near completion) will be considered an asset. Professional certification as a Registered Art Therapist is required: Registered Canadian Art Therapist (RCAT) from the Canadian Art Therapy Association, Art Therapist Registered (ATR) or Art Therapist Registered-Board Certified (ATR-BC) from the Art Therapy Credentials Board, Inc. Candidates must provide evidence of extensive clinical experience and expertise as an art therapist working with a range of clientele in various settings. Also required is evidence of effective and extensive supervision of art therapy graduate students in clinical work.

Other required qualifications include demonstrated evidence of, or potential for, outstanding contributions to: 

  • Teaching art therapy at the graduate level
  • Graduate student (MA) research supervision
  • The field of art therapy and to collaborative community and university service activities
  • The integration of social justice principles, such as Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, and Accessibility in teaching and supervision

Other assets include: 

  • Holding a Quebec psychotherapist permit or provincial/state equivalent
  • Holding certification as a Canadian Certified Counsellor (CCC)
