History of the Loyola Chapel
The Loyola Chapel in the F.C. Smith Building dates back to 1933. That's when Loyola College graduate, Father Francis C. Smith, took his final vows of poverty within the Jesuit Order and donated a portion of his family inheritance towards the construction of the Chapel.
Since the creation of Concordia University in 1974, when Loyola College and Sir George Williams University merged, the Chapel has been an ecumenical place of worship and the site of many different religious services and events.
In 2009, the Chapel underwent a revitalization process to further expand the width and breadth of groups and activities the Chapel could accomodate as a sacred space.
