We support OER initiatives at Concordia University. OER Services include consultations, workshops and events, open textbook grants, access to Pressbooks, and more.

Consultations by Appointment and Drop-in Hours

Interested in the Open Educational Resources Program at Concordia University, which includes our open textbook grants? Book time to meet with Rachel Harris. Dr. Harris is the Scholarly Publishing Library leading the OER Program at Concordia University.

Your subject librarian is also an excellent go-to-person. We have subject librarian specialists across disciplines in the arts and science, engineering and computer science, fine arts, and business.

You may also want to meet with colleagues who have developed open textbook projcts at Concordia University. See our projects.

Workshops & Events

We provide workshops and events during Open Access Week in October and Open Education Week in March. We can offer or co-develop OER workshops with you.

Promoting OER at Concordia University

Access to an Open-Source Publishing Platform

Concordia University Library hosts an instance of Pressbooks and offers related training and consultation services. Widely used in OER initiatives worldwide, Pressbooks is the open-source writing and publishing platform for customizing and creating an open textbook.

Copyediting and design work can be arranged for open textbook projects upon consultation.

Our OER Work-Study Team of students are key contributers to our OER Services.

OER Work-Study Students

OER Work-Study Students gain practical and professional experience while working within a team aimed at serving the wider student body. They actively contribute to outreach strategies, support OER grant recipients by trouble-shooting in Pressbooks, and co-develop our open guidebooks, such as our OER Discipline Resource Guide: Concordia University Library (2nd edition).

Instructional Design

In addition to supporting open textbook grant recipients impliment their projects in Pressbooks, the OER team has created and designed a comprehensive User Guide for Pressbooks (currently in draft form) to assist our OER grant recipients in navigating the platform as they work on their projects. This project originated by Sana Ahmad's mockups and is being continued with the work of Rahil Kakkad as part of the OER Team.
