Who is eligible to lead a field school?

Most field schools are led by tenure-track professors.  Nothing prohibits lecturers or part-time faculty from leading field schools; however, they must have prior approval from their department and have to determine how the course will fit into their teaching loads.  Field schools should not be used as way to guarantee future employment.
