Biography

Dr. Jiyae Bong is an assistant professor of Educational Technology in the Department of Education at Concordia University. Bong’s research focuses on (a) assessing networked learning in informal online learning contexts including social media and open learning platforms and (b) exploring technology-integrated intervention design and implementation. Bong organized the Canadian Network for Innovation in Education (CNIE) conference as a chair in 2022 and served as a board associate in the Design and Development division of the Association for Educational Communication and Technology (AECT) in 2015. She received the NSF/AECT Early Career Award in 2019; PacificCorp Design and Development Award (currently Design and Development Competition) from the AECT in 2014; and the Excellence in Online Mentoring Award from Floria State University in 2015.

Current projects
  • The Impact of the Gamification in the Creation and Exchange of Informal Knowledge focusing on User Emotion, Cognition, and Behavior. Funded by Concordia Team Grant Program. Role: Co-Investigator (2023-2025)
  • Applying Self-Determination Theory and In-Game Learning Support to an Educational Game, "Life on the Edge" Funded by Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC). Role: Principal Investigator (2022-2024)
  • Mobile technology-integrated interventions as a reminiscence therapy: Developing digital memory books, augmented reality materials, and therapy programs for patients with dementia and caregivers.
