Meet Newton
Concordia's therapy dog
Meet Newton, Concordia’s fluffiest Campus Safety and Prevention Services team member! Born on April 1, 2023, this adorable male Portuguese Water Dog is ready to win your heart and make campus life a little brighter.
Portuguese Water Dogs were once the loyal companions of fishermen, helping out on boats along the Portuguese coast. Known for their smarts, friendly nature, and hypoallergenic coats (no shedding here!), these dogs are as lovable as they are hardworking.
But Newton’s mission? It's even more special. He’s here to bring wellness and joy to students, faculty, and staff! Whether you’re in the middle of a stressful exam period or just need a boost to get through the day, spending time with Newton can help you feel calmer and more relaxed. Science agrees – petting a dog releases endorphins and lowers cortisol, leading to a sense of calm and relaxation.
You’ll find Newton roaming around campus on most weekdays with his partner, spreading good vibes and warm cuddles. Follow his adventures on Instagram (@newtonCUsafety) to stay updated on his latest activities and events – and who knows, you might just catch him at a pop-up petting session!
Newton’s presence isn’t just about reducing stress; he’s also here to help you connect. Whether you're feeling isolated, homesick, or just need a friendly face, Newton is here to provide comfort and create opportunities for you to meet new friends – both human and canine. So, next time you see Newton on campus, don’t be shy – say hi, give him a pet, and let him brighten your day!
