Classroom podium emergency buttons
Did you know that emergency buttons are installed on most podium computers in classrooms across campus? Learn all about these buttons and how to operate them in case of an emergency.
The classroom podium emergency buttons can be a vital tool during an emergency situation and send an immediate notice to Campus Safety and Prevention Services (CSPS), facilitating a swift emergency response.
Even if you use a personal laptop for teaching, CSPS highly encourages you to still turn on the podium computers during classes to ensure that the emergency button is easily accessible.
Where to find the button
The emergency button is on most classroom podium computers as an icon on the homescreen and in the computer taskbar.
If an emergency button is not installed on a podium computer, please reach out directly to your faculty for specific rooms managed by other Designated Space Administrators (DSA’s).
How to use the emergency button
- On the podium computer homescreen, double-click the “Desktop Activator” icon to activate an alert or left-click on the “Alertus Desktop System” icon in the computer taskbar and select the “Send Alert” button.
- Once activated, an alert is sent to CSPS including the building name, room number, date and time.
- No other data input is necessary for activation. An agent will be immediately sent to the location to respond to the emergency button activation.
If possible, call CSPS at 514-848-3717 before resorting to your classroom’s emergency button.
