About Julia

Julia finished her studies in aerospace engineering in April 2021 and is currently working at CAE in software development since July 2021. During her time at the Gina Cody School, she joined the SAE Aero Advanced Class team which acted as her Capstone project. Her team designed and assembled a RC plane that carried payload which needed to be dropped at a target location. The plane performed very well at competition.

Her one piece of advice for peers...

As cheesy as it sounds… do not give up. It is easy to become demotivated by failure, but it’s in these exact moments when you can’t see how you will ever be able to succeed, that it is most important to believe in yourself and know that you can do it. It is okay to fail. Most of the time we need to fail many times before we succeed. Don’t give up.

Three keys to her academic success

• Prioritize! Unfortunately, we can’t do it all. Often times, your academics must come first in order to be successful.
• Develop a full understanding of the topic you are trying to learn, do not just memorize your notes or the textbook.
• Use the resources that are available to you when you need help.

Two study tips

• Create a realistic study schedule that has a lot of breaks and allows you to plan ahead. Try to avoid putting yourself in a situation where you need to absorb a lot of information in a short period of time.
• When motivation is low, give yourself a “reward” for completing your work. For example, tell yourself that when you are done studying for xyz, you can watch that movie that you have been looking forward to.

Julia's next big goal

My next big goal is to become a master at software development. As someone with more of a mechanical engineering background, software development is something that I am not too familiar with. I would like to expand my knowledge on this subject and my work at CAE is helping me reach this goal.
