Researchers and students from the CSLP are participating in an upcoming research-creation event with the Musée d'art contemporain de Montréal (MAC) entitled the Extreme as Commonplace. Taking place at the MAC on Thursday, February 22, 2024, the multimedia performance by the BANAL collective will feature CSLP members Vivek Venkatesh and Annabelle Brault, alongside students José Cortés and Léah Snider, and CSLP Artist-in-Residence Veronica Mockler.
Together with their audience, BANAL will explore “a shared rendering of what we ignore, wittingly or inadvertently”, and will invite us “to explore what lies beneath the sense of alienation through the banality of extremes”.
The BANAL event is being presented as part of the MAC’s Espace M, a project space that encourages visitors to engage critically with the exhibition Velvet Terrorism: Pussy Riot’s Russia.
After seeing this exhibition, BANAL invites you to text what you’re ashamed of to 204-516-9443, and the anonymous responses will form part of the public performance on February 22.
