Ahead of their upcoming shows in Mexico that begin in July, the Montreal-based BANAL collective invites you to partake in the making of their performance and to share your opinion about diplomacy and its instrumentalization as part of a one-day pop-up residency entitled Dark Diplomacy.
The CSLP has previously covered their Extreme as Commonplace performance at Musée d'art contemporain de Montréal (MAC), and NORMES at the at Montréal, arts interculturels (MAI).
Dedicated to public engagement, BANAL’s sonic and visual events invite different audiences to access what is publicly unspeakable, unseen, and unheard using participatory artistic interventions. BANAL’s visually musical signature invites us to turn our gaze towards the murky center of that which renders us uncomfortable, that which we don’t understand, about ourselves and 'the Other'. Through sound, image, and gesture-making, the group questions how we tend to ignore the mundane nature of the inhumanity to which we are subjected as we face increasing political hostilities on a global scale.
The one-day residency gets underway at 10am, with performances at 1pm and 4pm. You may attend in-person at the 4th Space, or watch it live on YouTube.
