Concordia University Inter-Generational Fund

The Concordia University Inter-Generational Fund (CUiF) plays a key role in the university’s long-term financial sustainability by creating and protecting inter-generational wealth and fiscal capacity which withstand multiple economic and political cycles. The CUiF adheres to a capital allocation framework that invests in both innovative sustainability initiatives for the future and companies that demonstrate environmentally sustainable practices.

Mandate

The university’s financial position is governed by its Capital, Asset Management, Funding and Financing Policy (CFO-4). This policy provides funding and financing frameworks to measure the university’s ability to ensure fiscal and liquidity capacity. The CUiF was created to act as the university’s investment arm, outside of its pension plan.

The CUiF manages a diverse range of investment programs and pools. These assets include endowed and designated capital funds dedicated to supporting student, academic and research activities, as well as contributions from other capital sources at Concordia. The CUiF thrives through the generosity of alumni, friends, faculty, staff, corporations and foundations, who contribute to its largest and most significant source of support — the endowment fund. The CUiF also makes capital allocations to support debt repayment and cash management.

Governance

The CUiF is governed by an independent board of directors, which holds fiduciary responsibility for overseeing the fund’s business and affairs. This includes ensuring compliance with governance ethics, sustainability goals, partner relations and investment policies.

Sustainability mandate

In 2019, the CUiF embarked on a transformative, six-year journey with a clear sustainability mandate. The transition will be completed in 2025.
