Library Sources in Italian

This guide lists a selection of the more important sources of information on Italian available at Concordia Library. It includes material held in the Webster Library (WEB) on the Sir George Williams Downtown Campus, the Vanier Library (VAN) on the Loyola Campus and/or available online. Most materials are located in the Reference area (REF). This is not a complete list. Additional resources may be found by searching Sofia, the library catalogue.

Grande dizionario della lingua italiana: The most comprehensive dictionary of the Italian language. Includes examples from authors 12th-20th centuries 

Tommaseo Bellini: Published between 1861 and 1879, this dictionary was the only exhaustive Italian dictionary until the end of the 20th century. 

Vocabolario della Crusca: This page contains a searchable database of all five editions of the Vocabolario della Crusca, the first and most authoritative resource on the Italian language until the 19th century.

  • Decameron Web

  • Italica
    "Il sito web dedicato alla lingua e alla cultura italiana." Includes links to art, music, book, and language web pages
  • Treccani: Portal to Italian culture which includes the Biographic Dictionary of Italians (Dizionario Biografico degli Italiani), a Dictionary (Vocabolario), a Thesauras (Sinomini e contrari), and several other encyclopedias.
