NTU - GEM Trailblazer Summer Program 2024

Spend a summer in Singapore, the perfect 'soft landing' in the heart of the fast-developing Asia-Pacific region. This short-term exchange program provides you the opportunity to earn 6 Concordia transfer credits and gain all-round insights into the global skill sets required for today's competitive marketplace and corporate world.

About the program

JMSB students can spend a month in Singapore, the perfect 'soft landing' in the heart of the fast-developing Asia-Pacific region. This short-term exchange program provides you the opportunity to earn 6 Concordia transfer credits and gain all-round insights into the global skill sets required for today's competitive marketplace and corporate world. Students can choose 2 courses from Track 4: Success in the Globalized Market which has been pre-approved by JMSB.

To be eligible to participate in the NTU Trailbalzer Summer Program, you must meet the following criteria.

  • Be enrolled in a Bachelor’s degree program in JMSB.
  • Have a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA (CGPA).
  • Completed at a minimum of 24 credits toward your current degree program by the time you leave for the program.
  • Meet the eligibility requirements for Short-term study abroad programs outlined within the John Molson Visiting & Exchange website.
  • Must complete prerequisite courses prior to departure.

Program Dates

Track 4: Success in the Globalized Market will be held from:

June 26, 2024 – July 27, 2024

Program courses

Students may choose 2 courses from Track 4: Success in the Globalised Market (4-week program). 

Students must must meet the above-mentioned eligibility requirements. Permission to take courses is granted by John Molson.  Courses taken without John Molson’s approval will not be transferred to Concordia. All courses taken abroad must pertain to a student’s degree program requirements. Students must complete prerequisite courses prior to departure.

BU5642 Leadership in the 21st Century (MANA B, exemption from MANA 447) (Prerequisite: COMM 227)

BM2506 Digital Marketing - Connecting with Customers in Today's World (MARK 452) (Prerequisite: COMM 223)

BU5542 Social Marketing: Making this World a Better Place (MARK/ 3 credits) (Prerequisite: COMM 223)

BC2406 Analytics I: Visual & Predictive Techniques (BSTA B / 3 credits) (Prerequisite: COMM 214)

AB1601 Organisational Behaviour and Design (COMM 227) (Prerequisite: COMM 205)

AB3601 Strategic Management​ (COMM 401) ( Prerequisite: 45 business credits including COMM 225; COMM 226 or 301; COMM 315 and 320 previously or concurrently)

For Fine Arts Students ONLY

Track 3: Creative Design and Media

AAA18E Drawing = GFAR 3 credits (cannot be taken for studio credit.  Restricted for any student requiring or having completed DRAW 200. This is very elemental introduction to drawing course – could be interesting for our non-Studio majors as a simple elective within the faculty.)

AAA18J Painting with Watercolours = GFAR 3 credits (possibility for PTNG AB/3 credits for Studio or Painting & Drawing Majors depending on portfolio of course work produced – equivalence or substitution determined only after completion of semester abroad.)

AAA18K Design Communication = GFAR 3 credits  (possibility of DART AB/3 credits for Design Majors depending on portfolio of course work produced – equivalence or substitution determined only after completion of semester abroad.)

AAA28C Digital Media & Visual Arts: Still Imaging = GFAR 3 credits (possibility of PHOT AB/3 credits for Photography Majors depending on portfolio of course work produced – equivalence or substitution determined only after completion of semester abroad.)

AAA28D Arts Across the Borders = GFAR 3 credits (possibility of ARTH AB/3 credits for Art History components of various Majors/Minors if required.)

Permission to take courses is granted by John Molson and Faculty of Fine Arts.  Courses taken without John Molson’s and Fine Arts' approval will not be transferred to Concordia. All courses taken abroad must pertain to a student’s degree program requirements.

Estimated costs & bursary

Host institution fees: $1070 SGD (approximately $1100 in CAD). 

Program fee includes

  • The use of NTU facilities and services 
  • Campus orientation 
  • Cultural & social activities 
  • Miscellaneous university fees
  • Mandatory Group Hospitalization and Surgical Insurance (GHSI) for international students.

Concordia tuition: 6 credits of Concordia tuition to be paid to Concordia University. Get an estimate of tuition fees.

Additional costsProgram fee quoted above does not include airfare and airport taxes; local transportation costs; travel insurance; visas; meals; personal expenses or on-campus accommodation. Participants are responsible for paying these.

Accommodations

Shared on-campus housing is guaranteed for all participants of the program. Students will be housed in one of NTU’s 24 halls of residence for 31 days at a cost of $1050SDG (approximately $1100 CDN).

  • It is compulsory for students to be housed in on-campus accommodation allocated to them.
  • While there are no meal plans available and no fully equipped kitchen at the hall for students to cook their meals, students can purchase economically-priced meals at any of the Hall of Residence canteens, convenience stores or food outlets located within NTU. Refer to this listing for places to eat on campus.
    Price quoted above is inclusive of hall application fees, JCRC fees and air-conditioner card (pre-paid card for air-con usage).
    Self-selection and changing of rooms are not allowed. Room-mates of the same gender are randomly allocated. 
  • It is recommended for Summer students to check-in to their allocated Hall of Residences on the day of allocation check-in. For the 4-week programme – check in is on 26 June 2024.
  • Check-ins at the Hall of Residences are strictly from Mon to Fri, 9:00am to 4:00pm only. Students who are arriving earlier or later then the stipulated check-in timing are required to source for temporary off-campus housing. Alternatively, students may check with Nanyang Executive Centre (NEC) located within NTU for room availability.
  • Students who are intending to arrive before the notified check-in date, or stay in Singapore beyond the programme end-date will need to source for their own accommodation, as the period of stay in the Halls of Residence in NTU is strictly determined by the duration of the summer programme stipulated in the Letter of Enrolment.
