Concordia Greenhouse temporary closure
The greenhouse is closed for necessary repairs to the mechanical rooms in the Henry F. Hall (H) Building.
Timeline
- February 5, 2024, to the winter 2025 term
Overview
The 13th and 14th floors of the Hall Building are closed to remove decommissioned equipment and asbestos from mechanical rooms. The work is expected to take about a year, during which Concordia's external contractor will have exclusive access to certain areas at a time.
The work will be phased to ensure Facilities Management maintains access to essential building systems throughout the construction.
Alternative greenhouse locations during the work period
The university is working closely with the Concordia Greenhouse to minimize the impacts on the organization's operations and plant life, including identifying what functions can be transferred elsewhere.
The majority of the plants will be relocated to the 7th floor of the Hall building, where the Concordia Greenhouse will temporarily host its houseplant propagation program. The greenhouse will also move its offices to the 7th floor of the Hall Building to maintain close relations with the student community and to host various workshops in an open space.
A temporary greenhouse will be set up in the space between the Terrebonne (TA-TB) Building and the People's Potato Community Garden on the Loyola Campus. Existing microgreens will be moved to the TB Building basement.

The majority of visiting projects that share the greenhouse space will be temporarily relocated to the Loyola Campus, where a seasonal greenhouse is being temporarily erected to support their programming.
The majority of the volunteer sessions will take place at the Loyola Campus gardens. The greenhouse will hold frequent workshops and lectures on horticulture in the near future and will use the new space as a hub to meet and greet others, as well as to talk about nature.
The Concordia Greenhouse will host a limited number of workshops and lectures on greenhouse gardening and horticulture. The greenhouse’s temporary location is not available for rent given that it’s a shared space used by multiple student groups.
