Genome Foundry expansion
Renovations include the construction of a new containment level 1 laboratory, the installation of new fermentation equipment and upgrades to two existing microfluidics labs.
Overview
The Genome Foundry (GE), as well as the Bioprocessing Lab in the Applied Science Hub, are currently undergoing renovations that will introduce cutting-edge capabilities and enhance core functions to dramatically speed up research. These upgrades will significantly increase research capacity to meet growing academic and commercial demand.
Timeline
- Fall 2024 to summer 2025
- Projected completion: August 2025
Project goal
Researchers in the field of biomanufacturing technologies at the Centre for Applied Synthetic Biology will benefit from newly renovated spaces designed to accommodate the installation of advanced equipment.
The specialized infrastructure and equipment from this project will foster new collaborations both within and outside Concordia. It will enable the university to leverage the potential of researchers in the biomanufacturing field, including both established experts and new hires. The new GE-S120 lab will offer greater flexibility for future equipment acquisitions.
Planned renovations
- Construct a containment level 1 laboratory in the adjacent open office area of the Genome Foundry.
- Relocate equipment from GE-S126 to the new GE-S120 lab space.
- Design the new lab space with a large open area for custom equipment and assemblies, along with additional benches for non-integrated equipment.
- Install new fermentation equipment in the Bioprocessing Centre.
- Add additional equipment to two microfluidics labs on the Sir George Williams and Loyola campuses.
