Internship opportunities
Throughout your studies, you can take on paid internships or a journalism practicum to gain relevant work experience before graduating. Internship opportunities set you up to make your mark in the field and become part of our diverse alumni network.
Paid internships
Opportunities for paid internships in journalism and related fields are available to all students on a competitive basis through our site, Journalism Opportunities where Media outlets can also submit job positions to be posted on our site.
Many students have also won the prestigious CBC News Joan Donaldson Scholarship, an intensive four-month paid internship at one or more locations within CBC News and Centres.

Journalism practicums
Upper-year undergraduate students may undertake a practicum for course credit (JOUR 450). The practicum must take place at a recognized media outlet under the supervision of a senior journalist and with permission from the department’s undergraduate program director.
In the spotlight: student internship success
Talia Kliot, BA Journalism, graduating class of 2023
Talia was a recipient of the prestigious CBC News Joan Donaldson Scholarship in 2023. After her work placement at CBC Books, she was offered a position in the same department as a multimedia journalist.
Talia graduated from the Major in Journalism (BA) program with a minor in creative writing in 2023. Previously, she interned at Reader’s Digest Canada and was a two-time recipient of the department’s Frank B. Walker Award for excellence in writing.
