The Department of Theological Studies has several funding opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students.

Undergraduate funding

THEO Undergraduate Shuffle Award

The Theo Shuffle Award is inspired by the Concordia Shuffle and created by the Department of Theological Studies for a deserving student. This in-course scholarship is valued at $1,000 and shall be granted through competition, based on academic merit to full-time students pursuing a Major or Honors program in the Department of Theological studies who must have completed a minimum of 9 credits in Theological Studies.

  • Eligibility: Full-time students who are Canadian citizens, permanent residents and international students. 
  • Program: Undergraduate major or Honours Program in Theological Studies with a minimum of 9 credits completed in the department. 

Dr. Pamela Bright Scholarship for Excellence in Pastoral Studies

This in-course scholarship shall be granted through competition, based on academic merit to students pursuing a BA degree with a Major or Honors in Theology, focusing on pastoral studies with a preference, but not exclusive to, the purpose of serving the Christian community.

The scholarship is valued at $1,000, and is renewable so long as the recipient maintains a minimum GPA of 3.30 and continues to meet the terms and conditions of the award.

  • Program: Major or Honors Program in Theological Studies focusing on pastoral studies

Graduate funding

Bernard Lonergan Graduate Award

The Bernard Lonergan Award is a renewable funding award at $1,510, and is intended to encourage and reward graduate students pursuing a Master of Arts in the Department of Theological Studies whose research involves making use of the Lonergan collection and/or on the life of Bernard Lonergan.

  • Administered by: School of Graduate Studies
  • Must apply: No. Selected recipients must provide a short written statement that outlines how their research involves the use of the Lonergan collection and/or on the life of Bernard Lonergan.
  • Eligibility: New and returning students who are Canadian citizens, permanent residents and international students.
  • Program: Recipients can be full-time or part-time who are pursuing a Master’s degree in Theological Studies.

Steven Goldberg Graduate Scholarship in Theological Studies

This award is given out annually and is non-renewable at $2,500.

  • Eligibility: For new and returning students who are Canadian citizens, permanent residents and international students.
  • Program: Eligible applicants must a pursuing a Master’s degree full-time in Theological Studies.

Monsignor Andrew Sinal Memorial Bursary in Theological Studies

This award is created in memory of Monsignor Andrew Sinal by the Slovak Catholic Church of Ascension Eastern Rite (Byzantine) in Montreal, for his exemplary service to the parish. The award is renewable at $2,900.

  • Must apply: Yes. Applicants may be required to submit a confidential statement of financial need.
  • Eligibility: New and returning students who are Canadian citizens, permanent residents and international students.
  • Program: Eligible applicants must be pursuing a Master’s or a PhD full-time in the Individualized Program that includes the Department of Theological Studies.
