FFAR 249 exhibition
Each spring, FFAR 249 hosts a pop-up exhibition of works-in-progress from the winter term, during which students have the chance to experiment with interdisciplinary (and even collaborative) research creation.
The focus of the exhibition is on process rather than product. Students volunteer to show their work rather than being selected in any sort of hierarchical process, and are encouraged to bring their work as-is. This is a show that favours risk-taking over perfection.
The exhibition is a celebration and a chance to embrace and participate in creativity, imperfection, spontaneity, community. It is a celebration of their ongoing achievements and hard work.
The 2023/2024 Keywords year-end pop-up exhibition will be held on April 19 in the EV Junction.
The Lab: interdisciplinary arts pedagogy research
The Keywords lead instructors engage in ongoing research on interdisciplinary arts pedagogy to ensure they are providing the most up-to-date and relevant information to their teaching team and students. In this direction, the instructors work on an annotated bibliography of current and historical interdisciplinary pedagogical scholarship, disseminate research at conferences and talks, and build connections with innovative educators in the arts. We call this ongoing work “The Lab.”
In Spring 2024, we will host a one-day symposium called Expanded Practices: Composition in the Post-Secondary Fine Arts Classroom.
This hybrid event, held at Concordia’s 4TH Space on March 25, 2024, will include workshops, panel sessions and roundtables discussing the role of writing and composition in postsecondary Fine Arts pedagogy. The keynote speaker will be artist and educator Caroline Woolard.
