Position description:
The Department of Education in the Faculty of Arts and Science at Concordia University invites applications for an Extended Term Appointment (ETA) in Teacher Education at the rank of Lecturer or Senior Lecturer. The successful candidate will assume the role of Program Director of the new Graduate Diploma in Teacher Certification, which aims to admit its first cohort of students as of 2025. In addition to teaching , other responsibilities include overseeing program administration procedures (recruitment, orientation, registration, and advising), supporting students in their fieldwork, assisting in the development of a bank of resources to support student learning in collaboration with other members of the unit, supporting students and instructors in action research cycles, ensuring that the program requirements are aligned with accreditation standards of the Ministère de l’Éducation, preparing curriculum changes, membership on the Concordia Teacher Education Council (CTEC), and representing Concordia at the Table de Concertation des stages en enseignement.
Faculty members holding ETA positions at Concordia are full-time faculty members whose primary duties include teaching and service, with no research obligations. The appointment affords the possibility of promotion and permanent status.
Qualifications and assets
Candidates must have completed a Master’s degree in Education or a related field and a teacher certification at the elementary and/or secondary levels. A PhD in a relevant discipline is considered an asset. The successful candidate will have teaching expertise in at least five of the following areas: 1) lesson planning and implementation; 2) assessment and evaluation; 3) fostering diversity in the classroom; 4) inclusive pedagogy; 5) teaching language arts; 6) teaching mathematics; 7) teaching across the curriculum; 8) kindergarten teaching; 9) second language acquisition; 10) second language vocabulary; 11) second language pronunciation; 12) second language grammar. As this position requires frequent contact with provincial offices, the successful candidate must demonstrate fluency in French, both written and spoken.
Teaching experience in elementary and/or secondary schools, a deep understanding of the Professional Teaching Competencies and the Quebec Education Program, as well as experience mentoring teachers are requirements for this position. In-person, hybrid, and distance learning experience in university teaching are also essential. Experience in program development leadership is an asset.
The successful candidate will have demonstrated experience in participatory action research in school settings and be well positioned to act as a leader in this process. Additionally, the candidate will have up-to-date knowledge of Teacher Education programs and trends, both in Quebec and internationally, and must have expertise either in Early Childhood and Elementary Education, or in Teaching additional languages to young learners.
