Honorary degree citation - Raymond T. AffIeck*

Mr. Chancellor. I have the honour to present to you Raymond Affleck, a distinguished Canadian architect.
Having received a Bachelor of Architecture degrees from McGill University in 1947, Mr. Affleck pursued post-graduate studies at the Federal Technical Institute in Zurich. Returning to Montreal, he was a founding partner of Affleck, Desbarats, Dimakopoulos, Lebensold, Sise. The name of the firm was changed to ARCOP Associates, Architects and Planners, in 1970, with offices in both Montreal and Toronto.
Mr. Affleck has been the Partner-in-Charge of many projects which have enhanced urban fabric, not only in Montreal, but across the country. Some of his best known Structures include the Place Bonaventure and the Maison Alcan in Montreal; the Arts and Cultural Centre in St. Johns, Newfoundland and a Life Sciences centre at Dalhousie University, Halifax.
Mr. Affleck has long been concerned with education. He was on the organizing comittee of Dawson College in 1968 and has been Visiting Professor at the Schools of Architecture at the University of Toronto, McGill and Manitoba. Additionally, he has been Visiting critic and lecturer at the University of British Columbia, Nova Scotia Technical College, the University of Pennsylvania and the Graduate School of Design at Harvard.
His work has been widely praised. His professional awards include several Massey medals, The Canadian Architect Award and the Prix-d’excellence of the Order of Architects of Quebec. Throughout his career, Mr. Affleck has made a significant contribution to the built environment, to architectural education and to historic preservation.
Mr. Chancellor, it is a privilege to present to you on behalf of the Senate and by the authority of the Board of Governors, Raymond Affleck, so that you may confer on him the degree of Doctor of Laws, honoris causa.
